After having bred Shar-pei for so many years, the Mularoni’s House Kennel is able to give some suggestions about this wonderful breed.

Here below, 6 tips to do happy you and your lovely Shar-pei: The Shar-pei is usually stubborn and tends to be the leader of the pack. The owner must have this leadership otherwise the dog does not obey and tries to assume the command. Then:
1. Do not allow your dog to eat its meal until you (the top dog) have eaten first (in the pack the leader eats first and the others have to wait.)
2. Do not allow your dog to climb onto the sofa or bed (only top dogs are allowed to rest in the cosiest places)
3. You must have a room or corner in your home that is only for you and the dog cannot come in.
4. Do not indulge in all its desires, the dog has to understand that you are the leader.
5. Before you leave for a walk with your dog, it has to sit and wait then you put on it its collar and leash but above all you always have to go out before your dog (only the top dog goes first).
6. Keep the leash with your left hand (always) but do not draw on it; your dog must walk by your side, if it pulls you have to stop. The dog has to understand that if it does the wrong thing you stop it and do not move for a while. Do not pull the dog but persuade it to do what you want. If it, instinctively, tries to run towards another dog, divert its attention and suddenly change direction (the tug is useful to remind it that it paid not attention on its leader.)
These are only a few rules but do not forget to give a prize (a snack, or a hug) to your dog when it does the right thing. You are the “top dog”, the “leader” and the dog has always to below and to obey to you.

Eccovi 6 REGOLEche se applicate faranno felici sia voi che il vostro amato “pei”. Lo shar-pei è tendenzialmente “testardo” e tende a fare il capo-branco. Il padrone deve avere questa leadership altrimenti il cane non gli ubbidisce e tende a comandare anche quando è al guinzaglio.
- Spostare il pasto del cane dopo quello umano(nel branco il “leader” mangia per primo, gli altri aspettano)
- Non permettergli di salire sul divano o letto (sono posizioni alte che consentono di controllare il territorio)
- Ci deve essere una stanza o angolo della casa di vostra esclusiva “proprietà” (“lui” non deve e non può entrare)
- Non assecondare tutti i suoi desideri, il cane deve capire che siete Voi a decidere quando farlo divertire
- Quando si esce per la passeggiata, mettetegli il guinzaglio in casa e poi uscite dalla porta per primi (Il cane è secondo e vi deve lasciare il passo).
- Tenetelo a guinzaglio sempre con la stessa mano (sinistra) e fatelo camminare al vostro fianco. Se tira fermatevi. Il cane deve capire che se fa così non si va più in nessun posto. Non muovetevi finchè lui vi guarderà perplesso. Si ferma di botto. Non strattonatelo ma convincetelo a seguirvi. Corre incontro ad altri cani. Distraetelo e cambiate direzione bruscamente (lo strattone serve a ricordargli che non era attento al movimento del “leader”)
Sono solo alcune regole , ma ricordatevi sempre di “premiare” il cucciolo con carezze, parole dolci, “bravo” e al limite qualche “biscotto per cani”. Il “leader” siete voi e il cane deve capire che il capo-branco” cammina davanti a tutti, sceglie la direzione, impone agli altri la propria andatura e le proprie scelte. Fate in modo che il cane Vi riconosca in questo ruolo e solo allora sarete dei bravi padroni. SHAR-PEI cane da coccolare ma non da viziare.
